Base Oil Group – II

Description:
Group II base oils are highly refined paraffinic base stocks produced through hydrotreating or hydrocracking of crude oil. They are characterized by their high saturate content, low sulfur levels, and superior oxidation stability compared to traditional Group I oils. Due to their enhanced chemical purity and performance, Group II base oils are widely used in modern lubricant formulations that demand cleaner combustion, longer drain intervals, and greater thermal efficiency.

Production Process:

  • Hydrocracking or Hydrotreating: Breaks down or saturates aromatic compounds, drastically reducing impurities

  • Isodewaxing: Optimizes cold temperature fluidity

  • Hydrofinishing: Final polishing step to ensure clarity, stability, and purity

Key Technical Properties (Typical Ranges):

  • Viscosity Index (VI): 95–120

  • Sulfur Content: ≤ 0.03%

  • Saturates Content: ≥ 90%

  • Flash Point (COC): >220°C

  • Pour Point: -9°C to -18°C

  • Color (ASTM D1500): Water-clear (L0.5 or better)

  • Oxidative Stability: Excellent, suitable for high-temperature applications

  • Volatility: Lower than Group I, offering reduced oil consumption

Benefits:

  • Exceptional thermal and oxidation resistance for longer lubricant life

  • Low sulfur content reduces engine deposits and emissions

  • Excellent low-temperature fluidity for improved cold start performance

  • High purity improves additive response and overall formulation flexibility

  • Enhanced performance in extreme temperature and pressure environments

  • Superior cleanliness and filterability in hydraulic and industrial systems

Applications:

  • Passenger Car Motor Oils (PCMO): Meets requirements for API SN/SP and ILSAC GF-6 lubricants

  • Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine Oils (HDEO): Suitable for Euro IV/V/VI performance levels

  • Industrial Lubricants: Hydraulic oils, turbine oils, compressor oils

  • Metalworking Fluids: Cutting and forming oils requiring clean, stable base stocks

  • Greases: Base oil for lithium, calcium, and complex soap greases

  • Blending Component: Ideal for improving the oxidative performance of Group I blends

Packaging Options:

  • Delivered in bulk, flexitanks, 200-liter drums, or IBCs (totes)

  • Custom blends and additive pre-mixing available on request

Compliance & Standards:

  • Meets API Group II base oil specifications

  • Suitable for formulations complying with API SN/SP, ACEA A3/B4, and ILSAC GF-6 standards

  • Compatible with Group I and Group III oils for advanced blending flexibility

Available Grades:

  • SN180, SN350, N70, N110, N150, N500, N600
Each grade offers a different viscosity profile, allowing formulators to tailor products to performance and climate requirements.
