Base Oil Group – IV
PAO 6cSt

Description:
PAO 6 cSt is a medium-viscosity synthetic base oil belonging to the Group IV (Polyalphaolefin) category, derived from the polymerization of linear alpha-olefins (typically 1-decene). Engineered for performance and purity, PAO 6 offers a balance of high viscosity index, excellent oxidative stability, and low volatility, making it an ideal foundation for a wide range of premium engine oils, industrial lubricants, transmission fluids, and synthetic greases. Its consistent molecular structure ensures excellent additive solubility and long-term thermal reliability.

Production Process:

  • Oligomerization of Alpha-Olefins: Produces uniform, branched synthetic molecules

  • Hydrogenation: Removes unsaturated bonds, enhancing thermal and oxidative stability

  • Fractionation: Provides precise viscosity control for reliable blending

Key Technical Properties (Typical Values):

  • Kinematic Viscosity @ 100°C: ~5.8–6.2 cSt

  • Kinematic Viscosity @ 40°C: ~30–32 cSt

  • Viscosity Index (VI): ~135–145

  • Flash Point (COC): >240°C

  • Pour Point: -55°C to -60°C

  • Color: Water-clear

  • Sulfur Content: 0%

  • Saturates: ~100%

  • Volatility (NOACK): Very low

  • Shear Stability: Excellent – retains viscosity in high-stress environments

Benefits:

  • Exceptional oxidative and thermal stability for extended lubricant life

  • Maintains viscosity and film strength across a broad temperature range

  • Excellent cold-start performance and low pour point for severe environments

  • Low volatility ensures low oil consumption and reduced emissions

  • Compatible with a wide range of additives, esters, and synthetic base stocks

  • Highly refined, water-clear appearance for precision blending and formulation

Applications:

  • Passenger Car & Heavy-Duty Engine Oils: For premium SAE grades like 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-40

  • Automatic & Manual Transmission Fluids: Provides excellent shear and oxidation resistance

  • Industrial Gear & Hydraulic Oils: Long-life, high-performance synthetic fluids

  • Synthetic Greases: Acts as a thermally stable and clean base fluid

  • Turbine & Compressor Oils: Used in systems requiring superior oxidative stability and purity

  • Blend Component: Often combined with PAO 4, PAO 8, esters, or Group V oils for custom formulations
