Base Oil Group – IV

Description:
Group IV base oils, known as Polyalphaolefins (PAOs), are fully synthetic base stocks produced through the polymerization of linear alpha-olefins (typically 1-decene). These synthetic molecules are engineered to offer exceptional thermal and oxidative stability, ultra-high viscosity index, and outstanding low-temperature flow properties, far surpassing the performance of mineral oils. Group IV base oils are the foundation of high-performance synthetic lubricants used in automotive, industrial, aerospace, and specialty applications where reliability, efficiency, and extreme-condition performance are critical.

Production Process:

  • Oligomerization of Alpha-Olefins: Converts linear olefins into uniform PAO chains

  • Hydrogenation: Saturates the molecules for chemical and thermal stability

  • Fractionation & Blending: Ensures precise viscosity control and consistency across grades

API Group IV Base Oil Criteria:

  • Synthetic origin (chemically engineered molecules)

  • Very high VI (≥ 130–140+)

  • No sulfur or aromatics

  • Extremely low volatility and excellent oxidative resistance

Key Characteristics (Typical Ranges):

  • Viscosity @ 100°C: Common grades include 4 cSt, 6 cSt, 8 cSt, and higher

  • Viscosity Index (VI): 130–150+

  • Pour Point: -50°C to -60°C (exceptional cold-flow performance)

  • Flash Point (COC): >240°C

  • Color: Water-clear

  • Sulfur & Aromatics: None – 100% saturated synthetic hydrocarbon

  • Oxidation Stability: Outstanding – supports long drain intervals

  • Shear Stability: Excellent – maintains viscosity under high load

Benefits:

  • Unmatched thermal and oxidative stability for extreme temperature performance

  • Superior low-temperature flow – protects equipment during cold starts

  • Very high VI – maintains viscosity across wide operating temperatures

  • Zero sulfur and aromatics – cleaner combustion and longer oil life

  • Excellent compatibility with additives and other synthetic components

  • Low volatility – reduces oil consumption and emissions

  • Enables longer service intervals and enhanced fuel economy

Applications:

  • Premium Passenger Car Motor Oils (PCMO): Especially 0W-20, 0W-30, 5W-40 grades

  • Heavy-Duty Synthetic Diesel Oils: Long-drain HDEOs for commercial fleets

  • Aviation & Aerospace Lubricants: Where temperature extremes are common

  • Compressor & Turbine Oils: High-performance, long-life synthetic fluids

  • Industrial Gear & Bearing Oils: For high-load, high-speed machinery

  • Grease Manufacturing: As a base fluid for extreme-temperature and long-life greases

  • Transmission & Hydraulic Fluids: High-performance, thermally stable formulations

Packaging Options:

  • Supplied in bulk, 200-liter drums, IBC totes, or flexitanks

  • Custom PAO viscosities and tailored additive blends available upon request

Compliance & Standards:

  • Fully compliant with API Group IV classification

  • Widely used in formulations meeting API SP, ILSAC GF-6, ACEA, and OEM standards

  • Compatible with Group III, Group V, and ester base oils for high-performance blending

Available Grades:
