Ethylene-Propylene Copolymer (EPM) for Engine Oil Formulations
Description:
J0010 is a viscosity index improver (VII) based on olefin copolymer (OCP) technology, composed primarily of ethylene and propylene monomers. This polymer demonstrates low shear stability index (<25), making it an ideal candidate for producing viscosity modifiers when dissolved in suitable base oils. Once incorporated into engine oil formulations, J0010 significantly improves viscosity-temperature performance, contributing to enhanced engine protection and oil stability.
It is highly compatible with common lubricant additive components such as overbased calcium sulfonate (TBN boosters), ZDDP (anti-wear/corrosion inhibitors), ashless dispersants, high-temperature antioxidants, and pour point depressants. J0010 is widely used in blending both PCMO (gasoline engine oils) and HDEO (diesel engine oils).
Key Benefits:
-
Excellent viscosity index improvement – enhances oil flow characteristics across wide temperature ranges
-
Good low-temperature performance – contributes to improved cold-start protection
-
Easily dispersible in base oils – especially effective in SN100, SN130, and SN150
-
Shear stability suitable for balanced oil performance
-
Enhances pour point behavior when used with compatible depressants
-
Compatible with a wide range of mineral and synthetic base stocks
Applications:
-
Blending of PCMO (Passenger Car Motor Oils)
-
Blending of HDEO (Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Oils)
-
Suitable for formulating multigrade engine oils (e.g., SAE 10W-30, 15W-40)
-
Used in engine oil additive packages alongside detergents, dispersants, and antioxidants
